January 9, 2013 Newsletter

Now that the holidays are over, and school is back in session, we come to the other annual winter tradition -- the yearly assault of school illnesses!  My husband and I often joke that our kids are sick every year from November through May. Having just been visited by a particularly nasty virus, I know what it's like keeping a houseful of kids entertained while you (and they) recuperate.  To help you stay sane, we have our selection of great apps from the last few weeks below.  We hope you all manage to stay healthy during this new year!

One new app that is sure to keep any kid occupied is Monsters of Rock, the new Luna Kettlebottom and the Magical Cauldron Society adventure. We are huge Luna fans at TheiPhoneMom and eagerly await each new installment in these fairytale inspired stories.  Luna interactive stories are always high quality and free to encourage reading while the games have a small cost.  A full review is forthcoming, but meanwhile enjoy Monsters of Rock today!

As Treasure Kai is hunting for the lost gold he will get to choose to open one of several treasure chests. The choices he makes will determine the path the rest of the story takes.

The Lost Gold of Shark Island is the first of several adventures in store for Treasure Kai. The Seven Cities of Gold is currently available and King Tut’s Treasure will be coming soon to the App Store.

Pookie's Snow Day

Just in time for the frigid temperatures that many of us are experiencing right now, little readers and pre-readers will love helping Pookie the hedgehog find his way home before winter comes. Soothing narration and music help to make this a fantastic bedtime book that kids will love to read and play over and over again.

“Noun town what’s that sound, a person, place or thing is found in noun town." Grammaropolis animates the parts of speech giving them personalities based on the roles they play in a sentence. Each part of speech has its own neighborhood, and within that neighborhood is a map that combines traditional grammar instruction and quizzes with award-winning songs, books, and videos. Nouns are included as a free download, so try it out with your primary school kid!
Audiobooks HQ

Audiobooks HQ

Although it doesn't offer the bestsellesr that does, Audiobooks HQ offers 5,000 audio books for just the cost of the app ($1.99). The catalogs in the library contain listings available on the public domain, offered through LibriVox. Their goal is to make all public domain books available as free audio books and you can contact them if you wish to offer your time and talents, through the seller’s link.

Bedtime Bunny Tales:

Tortoise and the Hare HD
In this adaptation of the classic story of The Tortoise and the Hare, Grandpa Bunny invites you into his cozy nook (that smells of chocolate and cinnamon) just in time for story time. This beautifully illustrated app is the perfect way to settle down for a long winter’s nap or help your kids mellow out in time for bed.

Kidomatic is an easy-to-use program designed for kids and teens who want to have a little fun with the pictures on their mobile devices. My kids and I had so much fun taking pictures of each other and transforming those pictures into funny works of art with the tools in Kidomatic.

 It's Epic...and it's a clock, It's Epic Clock! cheesy of me.

Anyway, I don't know if you know but...we have another little app that just keeps getting a little more popular each day. It's animated and you can set the sound-birds chirping, waterfalls, etc. My husband, Sam created this painting years ago and just recently made it an app. I have the original hanging in my bedroom. I'm lucky to have an artist hubby! Check it out...

Interview with On Target Coaching...

OK...I've been MIA lately and I hate when people apologize over and over for not keeping up with their blog, so I'm not going to! Ha! Here's a link to an interview we did with Brent Pittman from On Target Coaching. He's a financial guru and helps people with budgeting...from small big family-he's a counselor, friend and teacher. Our video interview is about how we started our business, what it's like to work together as a married couple and a couple tips on how to make an app! Enjoy...Oh-I'm half cut off in the video...but don't mind that! Ha!

We are live!!! Download-Win an iPad2 and give us a review!'m exhausted! Ha! It's been a long week...and it's only Wednesday! I'm sure all of you feel the is the week prior to Christmas, which always seems to be very, very busy. I know I haven't finished shopping!

Last Thursday the Marketing team helping us advertise our app for toddlers, Bedtime Bunny Tales, told us we needed to release it on Monday. I wasn't ready...after all I haven't been blogging or tweeting very much (hats off to all of you who do that are extraordinary! )but I knew we needed to go for here we are! Both links below will take you to the iTunes hopefully you have an iPod, iPhone or iPad! If you don't...enter our contest to win one!! We've been working with Freebies 4 Mom...if you've read the blog before you probably remember some of our other promotions...but this one is a biggie! just click here for all the details Freebies4Mom

After all this time, after all the trouble we had with Apple you would think I would be jumping for joy about releasing the app...but I just didn't think we were ready. I kept thinking...I need to do this...prepare that, etc., etc....but finally realized-we gotta do this thing, but right before Christmas?

Every year we go back to Ohio for vacation. We have a big Christmas eve celebration with all the extended family and it is undoubtedly my favorite time of the year but this year, I'm going to have to spend a lot of time away from my mom's house-working the web-generating support for the app! NO! You see, my parent's live in a tiny village called New Martinsburg...and they don't have cable, or internet, let alone a smart phone or iPad! Anyway...we are alive and kicking and we found a new place with wifi about 5 miles from the all is well with the world, well at least our world-hope your world is well too!! See you soon...and have a very, Merry Christmas!

Pray for us...send us good vibes, run around and shout...whatever you think would help!!

Thank you for supporting us...reading this blog, encouraging, laughing and crying with us! This has been quite the year, full of ups and downs, kinda like a roller coaster-thanks for riding it with us!
